(For everyone’s safety)
We love costumes, props, and immersive characters! Because the Chattanooga Renaissance Faire is a free, open public event held in a city park, all weapons and weapon-like props must follow the rules below.
All weapons or weapon-style props must be inspected and receive an approval marker before entering the event area.

The following items may be permitted after inspection by event staff:
Costume Swords, Daggers, & Knives

- Must be clearly decorative or costume-oriented
Foam, Latex, or LARP Weapons

- Must be non-projectile and used responsibly
Walking Staffs, Canes, & Similar Props
- Allowed when used responsibly as part of a costume or mobility aid
Decorative Bows & Archery Props
- Non-functional or clearly decorative bows may be permitted at staff discretion
- No real arrows, bolts, or projectile use allowed
- Bows may not be drawn or used in a firing manner

- Functional projectile weapons, including:
- Useable bows

- Any item staff determines unsafe for a crowded public event
Peace-Tying & Entry Procedures
Weapons may be peace-tied before arriving at the faire.
Entry Point 1 — Queen’s Gate
Queen’s Gate is the primary Weapons Check location. Ellen and the Weapons Check team will:
- inspect weapons and props
- apply peace-ties if needed
- provide approval markers
Other Entry Points
Other entry points may verify already-approved and already peace-tied weapons.
However:
- If your weapon is not already peace-tied, you will be directed to Queen’s Gate for inspection and securing.
- Weapons without an approval marker may be denied entry until inspected.
While You’re at the Faire
- Weapons and props may not be drawn, swung, brandished, or used in mock combat
- Peace-ties and approval markers must remain attached at all times
- If staff asks you to re-secure or remove an item, please do so immediately
- Items that cannot be approved must be returned to your vehicle before remaining at the event
Event staff have final say on all safety decisions.
What Does “Peace-Tied” Mean?
“Peace-tied” means a weapon has been secured with a zip tie, leather tie, or similar fastening so it cannot be easily removed from its sheath or holder during the event.
